CHAN SHIBUCHO IN HONBU

For two weeks beginning New Years Day, Chan Shibucho of Vancouver dojo along with Sunday Sensei spent 15 days immersed in the true Karate culture of Japan. As is the case every time that Chan Shibucho visits Japan, he is impressed at the dedication of everyone at the honbu. Each student eats, walks and breathes Karate. This level of commitment and maturity is truly admirable.

Special thanks to Kancho,  Kiuchi Shihan, Hayashi Shihan, Kenji, Sho, Seto family, and those who so warmly welcomed Chan Shibucho and Sunday Sensei! It was definitely a great experience. One of their best memories was being able to study the art of Karate well into the night way past bedtime.

Training at the beautifully renovated Japan Honbu dojo was both demanding and challenging. Everyone had such great stamina that it took both of the visitors a couple of  days to get their muscles into such a high gear. It was an awesome experience to be able to join in on the New Year tradition of the first Shoseikan practice of 2007 where students from all of our Japanese dojos get together.

The daily training ultimately led to the 4th dan promotion for Chan Shibucho and Sunday Sensei. To get there though they had to polish their Karate and learned two katas that have recently been added to the Shoseikan system. It was hard work but training at the honbu was the best part of the visit. In the end, both of them earned their 4th Dan. Congratulations to Chan Shibucho and Sunday Sensei!!!

Now, it is back to work at the Vancouver dojo for Shibucho. With the added skills and knowledge direct from Japan, he hopes to instill the same level of Karate spirit in the students here. The memories and knowledge that both received from Japan will stay with them forever.
