SEMINAR IN HAMILTON

My son, Henry, and I were honoured to attend a 3-day Shoseikan Karate Seminar held in Hamilton, Ontario on Aug 17 to Aug 19 in 2007. The Seminar was hosted by Kancho Ishihara with the assistance of Shihan Hayashi, Sensei Terada and Sensei Ito from Honbu in Japan together with Sensei Mike and Sensei Cheryl from the Canada Shoseikan Mountain Martial Art Shibu in Hamilton.

In the early morning on Aug 16, both of us flew with our Shibucho Henry and Senpai Vincent from Vancouver to Toronto. Shihan Mark picked us up from the Toronto Airport and took us to the warm home of Sensei Mike. We attended Sensei Mike’s class in the front yard of Sensei Mike’s mountain dojo in the evening together with his students. With the warmest hospitality of Sensei Mike and Sensei Cheryl, we stayed in their home from Aug 16 to Aug 20. 

On Aug 17 to Aug 19, we attended the Shoseikan Karate Seminar held at the Pioneer Memorial Church Hall.  The Seminar was very successful.

The first day was targeted to adult of all belts; the second day was to all ages and belts while the third day was only to blue belts and above.

On each day, the hall was crowded with participants, including students from Shoseikan Shibus in Hamilton, ON, Kingston, ON, Toronto, ON and Vancouver, BC as well as other Karate schools.  Some of them were not even from Goju Ryu schools.

We learnt new warm up exercises and Kumite techniques in the Seminar and review all Goju Ryu Katas.  My son and I believed that we had improved our techniques a lot in both Kata and Kumite.
