Saturday, March 7, 2009 - Swarms of people warming up and practicing in the marshalling area signalled an even larger crowd than last year.  It was a busy area with people coming and going, with laughter and conversations. The mood was upbeat and everyone looked both excited for the competition to come mixed with a hint of nervousness.

The team kata was the first on deck and our black belt men’s team was first to be on the mat. The competition was fierce with many teams putting on a strong effort. Our three blackbelt members formed our kata team this year and put on an exceptional performance of Seipai. Well done!

As for our younger competitors, Samuel, our newest member, participated in his very first competition. He looked strong on the mat and seemed very confident with a great Taikyoku Jodan kata performance.

Karmina Cardero had a strong day at the tournament with a gold medal in kata and a gold medal in kumite!  In the Master’s category, E
(d#d$i@eA~u was able to bring home a bronze medal in kata. Ken Ko, Terry Zhang, Robert Chen received a bronze medal in kata. Also, Calvin Chan got a silver medal in paddle kumite.

Overall, the whole Shoseikan team competed hard and the results were great!  It was a great time for the family and friends who also came out to watch.  A special thank you to the tournament organizers for putting on such a great annual event!
